The Philippine Football Federation has appointed Richard Boon as the coach of the Philippine Women’s National Team for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup Jordan 2018.
Boon is an American coach who holds a US Soccer Federation A license. The American is an experienced coach and was the Director of Coaching for various football clubs in the United States.
Boon is tasked to lead the Women’s National Team in the Women’s Asian Cup, which also serves as the qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019. The Women’s Asian Cup begins on 6 April 2018 where the Philippines will face the likes of China PR, host Jordan, and Thailand in Group A.
Preparations for the tournament have already begun with the team holding a training camp in California that started last December. Over 40 players are participating in the camp which will determine the final 23-woman squad for the Women’s Asian Cup.
PFF president Mariano V. Araneta Jr. is confident of Boon leading the Women’s National Team in the Women’s Asian Cup.
“We look forward to working with Coach Boon as coach of the Philippine Women’s National Team,” said Araneta . ”It has been a long wait, but finally the Philippine Women’s National Team have this chance once again to play in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup along with the best teams in the continent.”
