Patrick Reichelt lifted the Philippine Men’s National Team to a 1-0 win over Singapore to kick off their AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 campaign at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
The forward gave the Philippines its much needed breakthrough in the 77th minute. Phil Younghusband, who marked his 100th international appearance for the Azkals, flicked the ball to the path of Reichelt, who easily directed the ball to the back of the net.
It was the first win of the Philippines under Sven-Goran Eriksson.
“We’re happy we got the three points, but it was a difficult game,” said Eriksson. “Singapore was playing direct and they were very difficult to defend. We made some changes and we showed good fighting spirit.”
The Philippines head to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for their next match against Timor Leste on Saturday 17 November 2018 at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium.
