Philippine clubs Ceres Negros FC and Kaya FC Iloilo posted contrasting results in their AFC Cup 2019 group stage matches against Indonesian opposition recently.
Ceres Negros claimed a massive come from behind 3-2 victory over Persija Jakarta last Tuesday, 23 April 2019 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Down 2-0 in the second half after Persija Jakarta scored in the 51st and 57th minutes, Ceres found their form in the last 20 minutes of the match.
Miguel Tanton reduced the deficit in the 70th minute off the free kick. Bienvenido Maranon levelled things 15 minutes later from a headed strike from a Stephan Schrock cross. With time running out, Mike Ott struck the winning goal in the second minute of added time to silence the almost 30,000 crowd in the stadium.
Ceres Negros remained on top of Group G with 12 points after their last 4 matches. They will next face Burmese side Shan United on 1 May 2019 in Yangon, Myanmar.
Kaya FC Iloilo, meanwhile, endured their first loss of the competition, yielding to PSM Makassar, 1-2, last 17 April 2019 at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium. Two first half goals from PSM Makassar were enough to claim the three points despite Jovin Bedic’s 90th minute penalty kick. Kaya also finished the match with 10 men after Jalsor Soriano was sent off.
The result put Kaya down to third place in Group H with 5 points. Kaya faces Laotian side Lao Toyota FC on 30 April 2019 at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod, Negros Occidental.
