The Philippine Girls Under-15 National Team clinched a semifinal berth in the AFF U16 Girls’ Championship 2019 following a resounding 12-0 win over Timor-Leste in the final match of Group A last Tuesday, 14 May 2019 at the Institute of Physical Education in Chonburi, Thailand.
Going to the match, the Philippines were already assured of a semifinal slot with a draw after Vietnam defeated Myanmar, 2-1, in the previous match.
Bianca Sy exploded for the Philippines scoring five goals in the rout. The forward found the back of the net in the 7th, 19th, 49th, 51st, and 56th minutes. Jonalyn Lucban (35’, 70’) and Lanie Ortillo (54’, 80’) netted twice, while Chenny Danoso (23’), Maegan Alforque (38’), and Celestine Luna (65’) added gloss to the score line with a goal each.
The Philippines tallied 2 wins and 1 loss in Group A to finish in second place with 6 points.
This will be the second time the Philippines advanced to the knockout stages after its run to the final two years ago.
Supported by the Philippine Sports Commission and the MVP Sports Foundation, the Philippines will face the top team in Group B on Sunday, 19 May 2019 at the same venue.
