Far Eastern University and Tuloy FC claimed wins in their first PFF Women’s League matches at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
FEU fended off Green Archers United FC, 3-0, in the morning kick-off. Joyce Onrubia led FEU’s second half charge with two goals in the 74th and 80th minutes. Eojin Koh added another goal in the 86th minute with a sublime effort to beat the keeper from outside the box.
“Even though we were misfiring (in the first half), the game showed that we can deliver the goals,” said FEU head coach Marnelli Dimzon. “Even though we started our preparations late, we are looking forward in working on the players’ techniques and tactics as the season progresses.”
In the second match, last year’s surprise team Tuloy FC came away with a 4-1 win over the University of the Philippines.
Isabella Bandoja, who was last season’s top scorer, netted the tournament’s first hat-trick in the 18th, 34th, and 90th minutes. Jonalyn Lucban was the other goalscorer in the 30th minute.
“The team played very well from the start until the end,” said Tuloy FC head coach Takemoto Suzuki. “They have done their job for the win.”
