The Philippine Women’s National Team came close to securing a semifinal spot in the AFF Women’s Championship after absorbing a 2-4 loss to Thailand last Wednesday, 21 August 2019 at Institute of Physical Education in Chonburi, Thailand.
Forward Quinley Quezada put the Philippines in front on two occasions in the 11th and 66th minutes.
But Thailand, who were from a stint in the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2022, equalized twice and went on to win the match with goals in the 16th, 74th, 75th, and 90th minutes.
“I am really proud of the girls as we played hard today,” said captain Patrice Impelido. “It was a fantastic game against the hosts and the players should really be proud of what they have displayed.”
The Philippines, which is managed by Jefferson Cheng and supported by Philippine Sports Commission and MVP Sports Foundation, will have another crack of securing a knockout berth when they face Singapore on Friday, 23 August 2019.
