Philippines Football League side Kaya FC-Iloilo yielded their opening AFC Champions League group stage campaign with a 1-4 loss to Thai League 1 champions BG Pathum United last Saturday 26 June 2021 at the Pathum Thani Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Two goals each from both Teerasil Dangda and Diogo Luis Santo compounded Kaya to its first loss of the competition after successfully qualifying for the group stage after its 1-0 win over Shanghai Port FC last Wednesday.
Kaya also had to finish the match with ten men as defender Simone Rota was given a direct red card in the 49th minute after a foul on Luis Santo.
Despite the deficit, Kaya willed their way for a consolation goal late in the match. Marwin Angeles was on target after a neat passage play from Arnel Amita and Daizo Horikoshi.
Kaya faces Vietnamese side Viettel FC on Tuesday, 29 June 2021.
