United City FC ensured that last week’s result was just a one-off affair in their 0-2 loss to Kawasaki Frontale in their second meeting in the AFC Champions League Group I last Monday, 05 July 2021 at the Lokomotiv Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Both sides were on the offensive in the first 15 minutes with United City goalkeeper Anthony Pinthus, who earned Man of the Match plaudits, keeping Kawasaki Frontale at bay.
However the Japanese side took the lead in the 19th minute. Kei Chinen pounced on the chance after a misplaced pass from Arnie Pasinabo, Jr.
Pinthus was in action again at the half-hour mark denying a chance from Kazuya Yamamura to keep the one-goal deficit at the half.
United City pressed on for the equalizer, but it was the Japanese side that scored the second goal in the closing stages of the match with Tatsuya Hasegawa firing from close range.
Substitute Kieran Hayes almost gave United City a lifeline late in the match but his shot was denied by Jung Sung-ryong to preserve the result.
United City face Beijing FC on Thursday, 08 July 2021 with both teams looking to get their first win of the competition.
