CAM PHA – The Philippine Women’s National Team banked on a strong second half performance to hammer Cambodia, 5-0, in their opening match in the 31st Southeast Asian Games Group A at Cam Pha Stadium.
Isabella Flanigan opened the scoring in the 27th minute, but it was in the second half where the Filipinas flicked the switch with four unanswered goals.
Sarina Bolden doubled the advantage in the 65th minute, followed by Eva Madarang three minutes later. Quinley Quezada and Anicka Castañeda added gloss to the scoreline in the 76th and 80th minutes to complete the rout.
“It probably was not our best performance, but we are glad with the win,” said head coach Alen Stajcic after the match. “It was very tough and the conditions was hot and humid, but we found our form but we know that there’s room for improvement.”
The Filipinas next face defending SEA Games champions Vietnam on Wednesday, 10 May 2022 at the same venue.
