The Philippine Women’s National Team kicked off their preparations for the AFF Women’s Championship 2022 with a 0-1 loss to the Republic of Ireland, Sunday at the Bellis Field in Antalya, Turkey.
Lily Agg’s 37th minute strike off the rebound was the lone difference in the match between the Filipinas and 27th ranked Republic of Ireland’s favor.
Despite the loss, the Filipinas managed to give their opponents a glimpse of their abilities with several chances almost resulting into a goal.
Carleigh Frilles had a half chance midway in the first half, but saw her effort denied by the assistant referee for offside.
Frilles had another chance in the second half, but could only send her shot wide. Isabella Flanigan, who was a late second half sub, almost provided a spark for the Filipinas, but the counter-attack was managed by the Republic of Ireland defense.
The Filipinas travel next to Slovenia for two friendly matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina on the 23rd and 27th of June 2022 before returning to Manila in time for the AFF Women’s Championship 2022.
The Philippine Women’s National Team is supported by Team Manager Jefferson Cheng, the Philippine Sports Commission, and the MVP Sports Foundation.
