The Philippine U17 Women’s National Team kickstarted their AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers round 1 with a 3-1 win over Guam last Saturday 22 April 2023 at the Guam FA National Training Center in Dededo, Guam.
A hat-trick performance from Nina Mathelus gave Coach Alen Stajcic’s side the three points in their first match.
Mathelus broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a sublime finish. She doubled the lead two minutes in the second half, before Melia Kuhakiko pulled one back for the hosts in the 71st minute.
The Philippines would score another goal five minutes later as Mathelus completed her hat-trick and the rout.
The Filipinas will face Lebanon in the crunch match on Wednesday also at the same venue to determine which team will top the group and advance to the second round of the qualifiers.
