Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, Her Excellency Sara Z. Duterte hailed the historic efforts of the Philippine Women’s National Team in their campaign in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™.
The Vice President said: “This is a historic moment for our country, a milestone for Philippine sports, and a testament to the power and potential of women. Your hard work has painted an inspirational and admirable image of our nation in the eyes of the world. Your success proves that Filipinos can compete and win at the highest level.”
The Filipinas made history not only by qualifying for the FIFA’s 32-nation showpiece competition, but also for its memorable 1-0 win against hosts New Zealand last 25 July 2023. Forward Sarina Bolden etched her name in Philippine football history as the first ever Filipino goalscorer in the World Cup.
