The Philippine U17 Women’s National Team yielded to England U17 Women’s National Team, 0-2, in their opening match of the MIMA Cup 2024 Monday night at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia, Spain.
The Filipinas U17 side, which is also preparing for the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2024 later this year in Indonesia, made a good showing, mounting a defensive effort to keep England at bay in the first half.
Alexa Pino had the chance to put the Philippines ahead in the fourth minute after Nina Mathelus was fouled on the edge of the box, but the free kick was denied by the wall.
England went on to fire the opener in the 35th minute as Isabella Fisher headed in Mia Endacott’s cross past Samantha Hughes.
Emily Cassap doubled England’s lead in the 55th minute after another header inside the box.
With the loss, the Philippines will face Sweden U17, who lost to Scotland U17 in the other semi-final, on Thursday 08 February 2024 at the same venue.
