The Philippines U14 Girls National Football Team emerged as silver medalists in the AFC U14 Girls Regional Championships 2016 held in Vientiane, Laos last 31 May – 05 June 2016.
Thailand won over the Philippines in the final match of the competition with a score of 1-0.
The Philippines started the competition on a high note, overcoming hosts Laos 3-1 with goals from Maria Lazo, Katelyn Alexander, and Carleigh Frilles.
In their second group stage match, the Philippines held Thailand to a 2-2 draw through Katelyn Alexander’s brace. The Philippines snatched a 1-0 victory against Cambodia thanks to the lone strike of Trinity Wambolt, providing them a berth in the knockout phase.
The U14 Girls drubbed Myanmar 5-1 in the semifinals with goals coming from Trinity Wambolt, Maria Lazo, and a hattrick from Carleigh Frilles.
The U14 Girls National Football Team arrived home today and were welcomed to a press conference held at the PFF House of Football. Parents and the media were present to celebrate the team’s achievements in Laos.
“We are proud of the team’s accomplishments in their international stint. They may have brought back silver medals, but they have brought gold in our hearts.” PFF President Mariano Araneta said in the press conference.
“The ultimate goal is to be able to participate in the FIFA women’s world cup. It is still a far climb, but we are definitley taking the necessary steps to progress.” Added General Secretary Edwin Gastanes
