The Philippine Under-19 National Team came agonizingly close to a result against Thailand in a hotly contested 2-3 loss last night at the Al-Saadah Sports Complex in Salalah, Oman.
The Under-19 side took the lead on two occasions, but were unable to hold the Thais, who found the winner late in the match.
Martin Merino gave the Philippines a glimmer of hope with the opening goal in the seventh minute. Thailand answered back in the 14th minute, but Kamil Amirul put the Philippines ahead once again in the 28th minute to go in to half-time, 2-1.
Thailand found the back of the net for the second time four minutes in to the second half to setup a nervy finish.
With time running down, Thailand completed the turnaround in the 89th minute to deny the Philippines the draw.
The Philippines face Afghanistan in the final match day on Sunday 18 September 2022.
