De La Salle University and Kaya FC-Iloilo joined Manila Digger FC and Far Eastern University as the top four teams that will contest in the semi-finals of the PFF Women’s League sponsored by Coca-Cola Philippines after the conclusion of Sunday’s matches at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
La Salle booked their place in the next round after a tight 1-0 win over Manila Nomads FC.
League top scorer Angelica Teves scored the winning goal in the 29th minute from the penalty spot after midfielder Samantha Toledo was brought down inside the box.
It was Teves’ 17th goal of the season, three more than second placed Isabella Bandoja of Tuloy FC who has 15 goals to her name.
Kaya also joined La Salle in the next round after an 8-1 hammering of Azzurri SC.
Shelah Cadag fired four goals in the 14th, 23rd, 37th, and 49th minutes to increase her tally to eight goals this season. The returning Sara Castañeda also found the back of the net in the 18th minute while Zhyrelle Belluga (57’), Hazel Lustan (63’), and substitute Francine Rast (65’) added gloss to the scoreline.
“It was nice game as we needed to secure the final four,” said Cadag, who was also named as player of the match. “We did our best to score and stand united as a team.“
It’s a four way tie in the standings with FEU, Kaya, La Salle, and Manila Digger in equal footing with 19 points. However, FEU, Kaya, and Manila Digger still hold a game in hand heading in to the final two weeks of the elimination round.
Tuloy FC are in fifth with 12 points followed by Nomads in sixth with 11 points. University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, Azzurri, and Stallion Laguna round up the standings.
